Bidriware is an intricate metal handicraft unique to Bidar, Karnataka. Using a specialized alloy of zinc and copper, master artisans etch elaborate Persian and Indian motifs by hand, laying pure silver wire into precision chiseled grooves. The signature deep black lustre is achieved using soil sourced exclusively from the historic 14th-century Bidar Fort.

THE HERITAGE OF BIDRI
Originating in the 14th century during the rule of the Bahmani Sultans, Bidriware is a highly prized metal handicraft. Inlaid with pure silver wire or sheet on a zinc and copper alloy surface, each piece is blackened with soil obtained from the ruins of Bidar Fort. This centuries-old chemical process ensures the dark alloy never rusts, and the pure silver remains ever-luminous.
